LDPA update August 2026: pool works and Falls path feasibility study

It has been some time since my previous general update from the LDPA and there are a couple of things I would like to share.

The first is that the works to better integrate the pool and the community BBQ area have been completed. The works have included: a new path from the pool to the BBQ area, a new gate between the pool and the BBQ area, refreshed paving around the wading pool, a new accessible stair for people with mobility impairment to enter and leave the pool, two new picnic tables, one with wheelchair access and both on slabs, and improved fencing arrangements at the end of the playground. New signage is to come. The project was funded by the state government and delivered by the City of Launceston, working with the LDPA and input from the community. I think these works have made a huge difference to the amenity of the whole precinct, turning it more into a wonderful asset for the community. The LDPA is looking at hosting a community BBQ event to celebrate the completion of the works, once the pool opens.

The second item is that the City of Launceston has commenced a feasibility and costings study for a path between Lilydale and the Falls reserve, promised by the state government back in 2018. Officers of the CoL with responsibility for overseeing the project will address the LDPA committee meeting on 1 September in the Memorial Hall to discuss the process and potential outcomes. Members of the LDPA are always welcome to attend committee meetings and this may be a good opportunity to come along and learn more. The feasibility study is being funded by a state government grant.
